The Royal Mint is the United Kingdom’s official maker of British coins and it is the oldest company in the United Kingdom. Our 400kW battery energy storage system is installed alongside a 2 MW combined heat and power unit (CHP). The CHP is set to follow the load in order to minimise power imported from the grid. However, the load is varying at a higher rate that that the CHP can cope with. When the load drops very quickly, the CHP engine will reduce its power but it needs time to do so. During this time power might be exported to the grid which is not allowed at that site and hence this could lead to system shutdown. Our inverters, controlled by our EMS, make sure that any excess power is directed immediately to the battery. Due to the fast response of our inverter, no power will be exported to the grid.
and a dual chemistry battery energy storage system (BESS).
