Prof Mohammad Abusara
Mohammad received his BEng degree from Birzeit University, Palestine, in 2000 and his PhD degree from the University of Southampton, UK, in 2004, both in Electrical Engineering. His PhD was concerned with control of grid-connected inverters and was supervised by Prof. Suleiman Sharkh.
He has over ten years of industrial experience with Bowman Power Group, Southampton, UK, in the field of research and development of digital control of power electronics for distributed energy resources, hybrid vehicles, and machines and drives. During his years in the industry, he significantly contributed to the design and prototyping of a number of commercial products that include grid and parallel connected inverters, MicroGrid, DC/DC converters for hybrid vehicles, and sensorless drives for high speed permanent magnet machines. He is also a visiting lecturer at the University of Southampton.
Prof Suleiman Sharkh
Suleiman obtained his BEng and PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southampton in 1990 and 1994, respectively. He is Professor of Power Electronics Machines and Drives within Engineering and the Physical Sciences at the University of Southampton.
He has over 20 years research experience in electric machines, power electronics and their applications in transport, renewable energy and microgrids. He has published over 160 papers, supervised over 20 PhD students to completion and currently supervises 10 PhD students. His inventions and research, funded by industry, EPSRC and Innovate UK, have contributed to the development of several commercial products: rim driven thrusters; direct drive tidal turbine generators; submersible motors; high speed PM machines for electric turbo compounding and gas compressors and grid connected inverters.
Raul de la Fuente Pinto
Raul is a technical electrical engineer who graduated from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in Vilanova I la Geltru, Spain, in 2007. With over nine years of industry experience, he has worked extensively in the research and development laboratory at DOGA. During his tenure there, Raul designed and implemented software to control the speed and angle of low-power DC motors for windshield wiper systems in heavy-duty off-road vehicles.
In 2019, Raul earned his MSc in Renewable Energy Engineering from the University of Exeter. For his final master’s dissertation, he designed, built, and analyzed a model of a modular 50 kW fast charger for electric vehicles. Currently, Raul is pursuing a PhD, focusing on control methods applied to a PS100 inverter, under the supervision of Mohammad Abusara.
Miguel Robayo
Miguel is a highly accomplished engineer specializing in electronic and telecommunications engineering, energy systems, and renewable energy. He graduated with a degree in Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering from the Army Polytechnic of Ecuador in 2006. Seeking to expand his expertise, he pursued and obtained a Master’s degree in Energy Systems from the University of Melbourne, Australia, in 2014. Demonstrating a commitment to advancing his knowledge and contributing to the field of renewable energy, Miguel completed his PhD in Renewable Energy at the University of Exeter, UK, in 2023.
Throughout his career, Miguel has developed a robust skill set and deep expertise in several key areas, including industrial communications, the development of energy management systems, system integration, and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems. His extensive education and professional experience make him a valuable asset in the field of energy and industrial communications.
